Have You Ever Heard of Reusable Kleenex?

A couple of months ago I purchased some of these wonderful cosmetic pads from ragquiltusa on Etsy. I thought it might be a nice, environmentally friendly thing to do. What I did not know was how wonderful a real cotton flannel cosmetic pad felt. They are much nicer than the disposable ones.

Now, I use them every day for applying toner. It is a little bit of pampering for me and a totally guiltless pleasure. I have a mesh bag hanging from the towel rack above the toilet that I pop the dirty ones into. When it is full, I simply toss the bag full of pads into the washer and dryer and start all over again.

Today, I found these pretty (or handsome) handkerchiefs embroidered in blue on Etsy, and I thought of how much I enjoy my reusable cosmetic pads. I bet these could be another guiltless pleasure. If you click on any of the above descriptions, you will be taken directly to the listing.

Pretty hankies remind me of my Grandmother. She always had one tucked up her sleeve. Handkerchiefs also remind me of the story my parents tell about one of their first dates.

My mom says that her nose was running and she asked if she could use my Dad's handkerchief. He gave it to her, and when she returned it, he threw it out the window. No, it was not a piece of kleenex that you throw away but a real handkerchief. Dad chimes in and says that he did not know what else to do with the snotty, wet thing. Maybe the lesson is that ladies should never be caught without their own handkerchief!

hu.made on Etsy!

on Etsy

Every so often, I will do a handmade search on Etsy and simply type in the word "blue." That is what I did this morning and found this great Cufflet Wrist Wallet in Buttery Blue Leather pictured above.

All these beautiful blue items are from hu.made on Etsy.

I also love the "dictionary entry" of the word "hu.made" that she has in her shop banner. I did a screen shot of it at the top of this post. Click on it to enlarge. It is worth reading! =)

To do a seller search, you need to type the seller ID name in the Etsy search box, then select sellers instead of handmade from the box to the left.

Oh, and the link to Etsy is the big orange square in the upper right-hand corner of this blog. =)

Just One Candle

As I sit here at my kitchen table tonight, I have lit just a single candle in front of me. It reminds me how bright one small candle can be. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere like I do, candles can be a sign of hope during these cold and dark winter months. They are a reminder of the light that darkness can not overcome.

The beautiful, blue, candle holder pictured above is from
Good Grief Glass on Etsy. The name of this particular Etsy shop seems fitting in light of what I said above!

An Amazing Polymer Clay Artist on Etsy!

Karin Noyes of Etsy shop Gallery by Harvest Gold makes the most amazing polymer clay bowls! The one pictured above--Tree in a Field--is one of my favorites. It has blue in it, of course.

FIRST SNOWFALL!

We had our first significant snowfall this morning, and the ground is covered in white. Our new puppy was a little confused by the sight, but she managed to find her old holes and dig them up again. I wonder how long she will be able to keep that up. (I just decided I would deal with the landscape repair in the spring.) When the snow starts to pile up, it will be a little more difficult.

If you have a special dog in your life, you need to check out the neat dog collars at Etsy seller r.e.stowe's shop. They even take custom orders!

Featured Etsy Shop - MDaisleyMoffitt

MDaisleyMoffit is one of my favorite Etsy artists. The images above are only a small sampling of the wonderful work for sale in her shop. From left to right / top to bottom, here are the direct links:

Below is an image of my own treasured piece from MDaisleyMoffitt. It was one of the first pieces I purchased on Etsy. It hangs prominently in our living room where we get to enjoy it every day!

ETSY MINI ARCHIVE - 12/1/09

I have been trying to figure out how to archive the beautiful, blue items that are posted in the Etsy Mini at the top of the page. As I hope to change it frequently, I wanted to figure out a way that they can be saved.

This screen shot is the only way I have figured out to do it thus far. Unfortunately, the items are not "clickable" like the items in the Etsy Mini at the top of the page, but at least they are saved for you to view.

If you click on the image above, you can enlarge it. The Etsy seller ID's are also easier to read. (The seller's ID is listed on the second live before the price.) You can do a seller search on Etsy if you would like to find that seller and his/her items.

Added New "LINKS TO THIS POST"

Update!
That does not work. =( If anyone knows how to make URL's in comments "clickable" let me know.

Good Morning!

Thank you all for adding your links to beautiful, blue items on Etsy! I just figured out that I needed to add a different comment option for your links to be "clickable."

If you would like to add a link in your comment please make it using the "LINKS TO THIS POST." That way others can simply click on the link to find your beautiful, blue item! =)

Link away all!

BLUE BIRD BAGS

Why I Wanted to Start This Blog

Hello, Everybody!

Welcome to the ODE TO BLUE blog! I started this blog for the following reasons:

1. Blue is my favorite color.
2. There are so many great artisans on Etsy who create beautiful, blue things.
3. I love to look at all those beautiful blue things.
4. I find that it is easier and more enjoyable for me to promote the works of others than it is to promote my own things (though you might find a few of my items thrown in here and there.)
5. It will give others a chance to enjoy beautiful, blue things too!

If you know of another beautiful, blue, handmade item , be sure to add a link in the comment box!

Enjoy!
Christine
